Job Summary:
Position: Assistant General Counsel
Job Summary: The Assistant General Counsel – Healthcare will provide legal advice, support, and oversight on a broad range of healthcare-related legal matters, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This position involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, providing regulatory guidance, managing litigation, and supporting corporate governance initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthcare law, including experience with HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and other relevant regulations.
Responsibilities:
Contract Management:
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including service agreements, physician contracts, vendor
agreements, and managed care agreements.
- Ensure contractual terms align with applicable healthcare laws and organizational objectives.
Legal Advisory and Compliance:
Provide legal counsel on healthcare regulatory matters, including patient care, compliance programs,
fraud and abuse laws, and Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement.
- Monitor changes in healthcare laws and regulations, advising on their impact to the organization.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance.
Risk Management and Litigation Support:
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and mitigate legal risks.
- Support and manage litigation, investigations, and audits involving the organization.
- Respond to subpoenas, complaints, and other legal inquiries.
Corporate Governance and Transactions:
Advise on corporate governance matters, including board-related issues and compliance with nonprofit
or for-profit regulations.
- Provide legal support for healthcare transactions such as mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and
affiliations.
Training and Education:
- Develop and deliver training programs for staff on relevant legal and regulatory topics, including HIPAA
compliance and other healthcare-related laws.
- Serve as a trusted resource for legal and ethical guidance across departments.
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 5–10 years of experience in healthcare law, with prior in-house counsel or law firm experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare regulatory frameworks, including HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, EMTALA, and CMS guidelines.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and provide practical, business-oriented solutions.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with managed care organizations or hospital systems.
- Familiarity with healthcare technology, telehealth, and data privacy laws.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
