The mission of the Mayor's Office of Housing (MOH) is to make Boston a more equitable and inclusive city where all residents can thrive. MOH oversees programs that create and preserve affordable housing, support homeowners and renters, provide housing and services to homeless individuals and families, and develop city-owned property. MOH seeks to carry out its mission through a lens of promoting diversity, equity and inclusion and addressing the effects of systemic racism in our city.

MOH is seeking a full-time Paralegal to support our legal and compliance teams and our affordable housing work overall. The ideal candidate has excellent attention to detail, is well organized, able to meet deadlines, and is interested in MOH's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Compile and review real estate closing packages prepared by MOH and coordinate sign-off with outside parties.
  • Track cases of noncompliance with MOH policies and agreements, document actions taken, and keep internal teams updated on status.
  • Employ templates to draft housing agreements and other legal documents.
  • Support internal and outside counsel, including by checking facts in pleadings and affidavits and maintaining a calendar of events and deadlines.
  • Coordinate housing refinancing transactions, including MOH loans and mortgage subordinations.
  • Research real estate title questions.
  • Prepare documents for recording at the Registry of Deeds, check all citations and references, and ensure recording is done correctly.
  • Sort, analyze, organize, and archive documents.
  • Assist in administrative review and tasks pertaining to procurements and contracts.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with staff and outside stakeholders.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to requests for assistance on additional projects.
  • Assist with document gathering and review for public records requests.
  • Perform related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of relevant experience plus a Bachelor's degree or three (3) years of relevant experience without a Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan work and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with title searches and real estate transactions is preferred.
  • Proficiency with common software applications, including Microsoft or Google Suite, is required; familiarity with spreadsheets is preferred.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment.
