The New York City Family Court, in collaboration with the New York State Unified Court System, is offering a one-year Legal Fellowship for recent law school graduates with a passion for public service and access to justice. This prestigious program provides Fellows with hands-on experience in one of the busiest trial courts in the state.


Role & Responsibilities:

  • Conducting legal research and analysis of various aspects of the Family Court Act, Domestic Relations Law, and Social Services Law
  • Drafting bench memoranda, legal opinions, proposed orders, and correspondence
  • Assisting jurists with settlement conferences and case management
  • Observing and supporting trials
  • Proofreading judicial decisions and ensuring accurate application of the law
  • Utilizing Family Court technologies, including e-filing systems, case tracking tools, and digital databases
  • Participating in access to justice activities and family law policy developments


Professional Development:

Fellows will attend professional development forums hosted by the NYC Family Court, providing opportunities to engage with jurists and legal professionals committed to public interest law.


Qualifications:

Receipt of a Juris Doctor degree from a fully accredited law school. Applicants must have graduated no more than 3 years prior to the date of appointment.


Duration: 1-Year Fellowship (Renewable for 1 additional year)


Salary: $84,659 + $4,920 Location Pay
