Compensation: Base salary range of $150k to $180k +Bonus

Location: Chicago or St Louis (Hybrid)

We are working with a top rated (Multi Line) Insurance company looking to hire an experienced Regulatory & Compliance Attorney and Legal Counsel with a background in the Insurance industry. This role reports directly to the CCO and will sit in Legal. This role will lead a small team of (3) Analysts that are part of the Complaints area. We are seeking someone with a proven record of successfully handling complex legal and compliance matters. The right candidate will possess strong legal judgment and decision making, the ability to seamlessly work with leaders across the organization and also work with a sense of urgency, and a strong business focus. Previous management experience is not a requirement. Being licensed in either IL or MO is a requirement. JD required.

Responsibilities Include

• Market Conduct Exams, direct, oversee and advise as needed
• Regulatory Change Management and Compliance Monitoring processes (lead and oversee)
• (DOI) Department of Insurance complaint process (oversee and lead)
• Closely monitor insurance laws, regulation and guidance and make changes when needed
• Provide expert legal advice on all aspects of the life insurance business including the design, sale and administration of life and other insurance policies and agent and distribution matters.
• Provide proactive and timely legal counsel in support of strategic and tactical business initiatives.
• Identify and mitigate risk to Company by providing relevant counsel and effective business-focused solutions.
• Build and maintain relationships with regulators and industry stakeholders.
• Support business partners in finding legally compliant solutions to challenging business problems.
• Prepare various regulatory filings and draft policy forms.
  
  

Qualifications Include

• (J.D.) from ABA-accredited institution and Bar member in good standing
• 3-5+ years of combined law firm and in-house legal
• 2+ years experience in the Insurance industry. This role will work primarily with the Life Insurance line of business, but a background in P&C is ok as well
• Proven experience interacting with state insurance regulators to resolve issues and meet company objectives.
• Outstanding verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Results driven attitude with strong business acumen and the ability to influence others.
• Ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization and the flexibility to adapt to and lead through change.
