Role: Chief Legal Officer (General Counsel

Hybrid (WFH every Mon and Fri, On-site Tues to Thurs)
Our client, a leading organization in the chemical industry, is seeking an experienced and strategic Chief
Legal Officer (General Counsel) to join their executive team. This key leadership role is responsible for
safeguarding the organization's legal interests and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local
regulations. The General Counsel will report directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer and
oversee a dynamic Legal Services team.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Legal Leadership:
Develop and implement comprehensive legal strategies, including managing offensive and
defensive litigation.
Collaborate with technical and policy teams to provide insights on regulations and legislation
affecting the chemical industry.
Risk Management
Oversee legal risk management, including political and lobbying compliance.
Manage contracts with external parties and ensure effective risk mitigation.
Corporate Governance
Supervise corporate governance, including Board and Board Committee processes.
Serve as Corporate Secretary, ensuring effective governance practices.
Compliance Oversight
Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, and local laws, including antitrust
regulations.
Act as Chief Compliance Officer, overseeing the Code of Ethics and Conduct program.
Team Management
Lead and manage the Legal Services department, including setting performance objectives,
conducting reviews, and fostering employee development.
Oversee the selection, retention, and management of outside counsel.
Budget And Administration
Direct the development and management of the annual legal operational budget.
Qualifications
Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.
Admission to the bar in relevant jurisdiction(s).
Minimum of 12 years of experience as an attorney, with at least 8 years in advocacy or related
roles.
Demonstrated expertise in the chemical industry or related sectors.
Experience with federal government agencies (e.g., EPA) or related regulatory bodies.
Solid understanding of Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) laws.
Proven experience with board governance and trade associations.
