- Successful passing completion of the Basic Criminal Investigative Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia, or agency's acceptance of an accredited equivalent.
- Selected applicants must undergo and successfully obtain and maintain a background investigation for a Top Secret clearance. You must meet initial and periodic suitability determinations based on favorable background investigations and updates.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Time in grade:Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the
GS-13 grade level for consideration for the
GS-14 grade level).

The Duties Of Positions In This Series Require Moderate To Arduous Physical Exertion Involving Walking And Standing, Use Of Firearms, And Exposure To Inclement Weather. Manual Dexterity With Comparatively Free Motion Of Finger, Wrist, Elbow, Shoulder, Hip, And Knee Joints Is Required. Arms, Hands, Legs, And Feet Must Be Sufficiently Intact And Functioning In Order That Applicants May Perform The Duties Satisfactorily. Sufficiently Good Vision In Each Eye, With Or Without Correction, Is Required To Perform The Duties Satisfactorily. Near Vision, Corrective Lenses Permitted, Must Be Sufficient To Read Printed Material The Size Of Typewritten Characters. Hearing Loss, As Measured By An Audiometer, Must Not Exceed 35 Decibels At 1000, 2000, And 3000 Hz Levels. Since The Duties Of These Positions Are Exacting And Responsible, And Involve Activities Under Trying Conditions, Applicants Must Possess Emotional And Mental Stability. Any Physical Condition That Would Cause The Applicant To Be a Hazard To Himself/herself, Or Others Is Disqualifying. In Addition To Meeting The IOR, Applicants Must Also Meet The Minimum Qualifications Below:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENT FOR GS-14:GS-14 Specialized Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience
equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
- Experience conducting internal employee misconduct investigations and proficiency in the standards of Kalkines and Garrity as well as knowledge of guidelines associated with parallel investigations.
- Experience in investigative and analytical techniques and ability to apply the knowledge to difficult and complex work assignments;
- Planning, executing and following-up on inspections, audits and acceptable Inspector General (IG) and audit standards and practices;
- Constructing logical conclusions and recommending course of action regarding the integrity, efficiency and effectiveness of the processes, programs and activities;
- Adapting techniques to the situation, using experience and ability to recognize when administrative cases become criminal investigations; and
- Conducting in-depth interviews and interrogations in an attempt to elicit admissions or confessions if deception is indicated by investigative facts.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
