Job Description
We are seeking a Legal Associate to support our expanding team. In this role, you will assist in managing legal affairs for our rapidly growing startup, focusing on contracts, compliance, intellectual property, and regulatory issues pertinent to the EV charging industry. You'll work closely with our executive team, as well as cross-functionally with engineering, supply chain, finance, and revenue teams.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including vendor agreements, customer contracts, partnership deals, service terms, and government agreements.
- Ensure compliance for all relevant local, state, and federal regulations regarding EV charging, data privacy, and cybersecurity.
- Work with outside counsel to manage intellectual property issues, including patent filings, trademark registrations, and IP protection strategies.
- Conduct legal research and provide actionable legal advice on emerging regulatory challenges in the EV sector.
- Advise Human Resources on employment law matters, including employee contracts and compliance with labor laws.
- Aid in the preparation for and response to legal disputes or audits, including working with external counsel when necessary.
- Participate in strategic discussions to identify legal risks and opportunities for the company's growth.
- Lead contract development and strategy to support growth into new applications, business models, and emerging opportunities.
- Support continuous improvements of contracts, forms, policies, and processes to help streamline and simplify deals and service terms
- Work with executive leadership and cross functionally with business units across the company to analyze legal risks, devise creative solutions and develop strong, trusted advisor relationships
Skills & Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- At least 4 years of legal experience, preferably in a tech startup or related industry.
- Strong understanding of contract law, intellectual property law, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with or knowledge of the EV industry, technology law, or related fields is highly desirable.
- Excellent research, drafting, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proactive approach to problem-solving with a keen eye for detail.
- Bachelor's degree in any field, with a preference for those with a technical or business background.
