Legal Assistant (Full-Time/Direct-Hire) – Washington, D.C.
About the Role: A boutique law firm in Washington, D.C., specializing in trust and estate planning, is seeking a Legal Assistant to join their team. This role involves comprehensive support for attorneys, ensuring smooth operations in managing documents, billing, client support, and administrative tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Document Management: Edit, format, and finalize legal documents (e.g., wills, trusts, estates). Includes running tables of contents and correcting documents based on attorney markups.
- Billing: Manage billing for 2–3 attorneys using Juris, input time entries, generate monthly invoices, and produce billing reports.
- Legal Research Support: Download statutes via Lexis and assist with client filings in local jurisdictions.
- Administrative Duties: Manage travel arrangements, process expenses, handle phones, greet visitors, manage mail/packages, and assist with meeting preparations.
- Client Project Support: Compile binders, prepare documents for client meetings, and follow up on signed client documents as per firm procedures.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to manage billing systems (experience with Juris is a plus).
- Strong attention to detail for proofreading, pagination, and formatting documents.
- Experience with legal correspondence, filing systems, and general office management.
- Familiarity with LexisNexis or similar legal research tools.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
