FAMILY LAW ATTORNEY
We are looking for a persuasive attorney who has experience resolving complicated family law cases with business, and property scenarios.
In our market we are highly regarded; It is a reputation that we have earned over 40 years of service in our community. We fight hard for our clients and win. We are looking for a key associate that will work directly with the owner and support the growth of the firm. The Associate works under the general direction of the firm owner and has a broad degree of discretion with respect to control of cases assigned to him/her. Mentorship will be provided and tailored to the Associate, based upon their goals.
This is a lifestyle opportunity. We are in Cass County, Michigan, with a location in Edwardsburg and Cassopolis. The area provides Blue Ribbon schools, a State Champion Football team, several lakes with public access, and is near South Bend and Notre Dame. Commute time is around 10 minutes, unless you choose to live in Indiana. This area has an affordable cost of living and is a safe place to raise your family with plenty of outdoor recreation.
The Job
- Demonstrate experience in taking ownership of a client's case – discovery, pleadings, motions; collaboration and mediation; pretrial hearings, motion hearings, and trials.
- Conduct client meetings and recommend strategies.
- Delegate work to paralegals and legal assistants, and monitor their work.
- Calendars tasks to ensure the case moves through the legal process in accordance with goals and established milestones.
- Foster and maintain an excellent rapport with clients through consistent communication and thorough advisement.
- 20 billable hours per week.
The Essentials
- You will contribute to developing the strategy of a case and know where to find the rules of procedure to back up that case strategy.
- You know your way around the courtroom and how to project confidence and competence when dealing with people on behalf of our clients.
- You see a “case file” as more than paper – as an opportunity to help someone build a new life.
- Your skills and experience are important and valued, but your personality, character, intelligence, and integrity are also extremely important considerations.
- We are growing, and you will be called upon to wear many hats. We need someone who does not think that the occasional need to scan your own documents is “beneath you."
Experience:
- You have at least three years of family law experience.
- You have handled at least 60 divorce cases from start to finish.
- You have litigated at least 10 contested evidentiary hearings and/or trials.
- You have handled at least 30 post-judgment cases (custody, parenting time, support) from start to finish.
Salary is commensurate with skill and experience and is negotiable, with a cap of $112,000. This is an Exempt position, as we do expect hours to be 40+ most weeks.
