WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH:
As Corporate Counsel, you will work alongside our Compliance Counsel to support the legal department and assist the company with compliance with consumer protection laws and perform research tasks.
You will work with different departments to achieve various goals, including sales, customer success, operations, product, IT, as well as the Executive team.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Conduct legal research on multi-jurisdictional legislative, regulatory, and other developments related to DOT compliance, and work with Counsel to advise various teams on legal questions and requests
- Monitor developments in local (municipal, state, and federal) and global regulations and provide proactive guidance on regulatory trends, risks, and opportunities
- Develop and improve scalable training materials and workflows for legal issues and escalations
- Organize and lead cross-functional teams to implement new compliance initiatives
- Understand and analyze different legal needs across different departments and make suggestions for updates or changes to existing processes that can be easily implemented without disruption to the organization or its clients
- Support Counsel with contract management and negotiations, responses to subpoenas, and other transactional or litigation-related matters
START DATE:
- Current license holders: negotiable
- Recent or soon-to-be grads: opportunity to work as an intern or law clerk until the end of the academic year with a break offered for you to study for and take the bar.
Requirements
- Admission or pending admission to your state's bar
- 1+ years of relevant transactional legal experience including in-house or law firm (internships during law school are considered)
- Working knowledge of various privacy laws (local and global), and laws related to commercial motor vehicles and driver compliance
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. A writing sample should be provided with an application for the position
- High attention to detail, influencing and problem resolution skills. This can be demonstrated with moot court or mock trial experience for recent grads
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite with experience working in OneDrive and SharePoint. Bonus points for knowledge of Salesforce and Monday
- BONUS: FCRA certified (Basic or Advanced) or experience with the Professional Background Screening Association.
- BONUS: Experience with DOT regulatory compliance
