Position Overview
The Head of Legal at Community Management Holdings will provide strategic leadership across five core practice areas: contracts, litigation, employment law, M&A and regulatory. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role will focus on developing and managing relationships with specialized external counsel while providing internal strategic guidance on legal matters affecting the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Contract Management
- Lead the development, negotiation, and standardization of all corporate contracts
- Establish contract management systems and approval processes
- Oversee the review and approval of commercial agreements
- Develop standard templates and playbooks for routine contracts
- Select and manage external counsel for specialized contract matters
Litigation Management
- Develop and implement litigation strategy across all cases
- Manage relationships with litigation counsel across multiple jurisdictions
- Oversee case management, including budget control and outcome tracking
- Coordinate with business units on litigation prevention strategies
- Regular reporting on litigation status and risk assessment to executive team and board of directors
Employment & Labor Law
- Oversee all employment-related legal matters
- Guide HR team on complex employment issues
- Manage external employment law counsel
- Develop and update employment policies and procedures
- Coordinate response to employment claims and disputes
Mergers & Acquisitions
- Coordinate with external M&A counsel
- Review transaction documents
- Manage post-acquisition legal
Regulatory Matters
- Ensure review and compliance of regulatory requirements
- Develop and maintain network of specialized legal providers in monitoring and understanding the multi-state regulatory landscape of HOA/Community management
- Ensure understanding of regulatory matters that might impact M&A.
External Counsel Management
- Develop and maintain network of specialized legal providers
- Establish performance metrics for external counsel
- Manage legal budget and outside counsel fees
- Coordinate work across multiple law firms and specialties
- Regular evaluation of external counsel performance and value
Qualifications
Required
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Active membership in state bar association – ideally AZ or a state with reciprocity
- 15+ years of legal experience
- Demonstrated experience managing external counsel relationships
- Strong background in contract negotiation and corporate transactions
- Experience in employment law and litigation management
- M&A transaction experience
Preferred
- In-house counsel experience
- Multi-jurisdiction bar admissions
- Experience in legal operations and process improvement
- Background in legal technology implementation

Location/Travel
- Full-time position, ideally based at corporate headquarters in Scottsdale, AZ
- Travel as required but expected to be 10% or less
- On-call availability for urgent legal matters

Additional Information
If driving is, or becomes, a requirement of the role, it is required, at all times, that you hold a valid state driver’s license for the class of vehicle you are driving, maintain a clean motor vehicle report, and hold current automobile insurance at statutory limits. You must notify People Operations immediately regarding any change to your motor vehicle standing. CCMC may periodically review motor vehicle reports to ensure compliance with these requirements.
The physical requirements can vary, but generally, they may include:
- Mobility: Ability to walk the grounds long distances in various weather conditions.
- Lifting and Carrying: Occasionally lifting and carrying supplies or equipment up to 25 pounds.
- Extended Sitting or Standing: Capability to sit or stand for extended periods during meetings or events.
- Manual Dexterity: Skills in using technology, including computers and mobile devices.
- Driving: Ability to operate vehicle to perform certain job functions. (Please note: We will request and review an MVR at the time of hire and on a periodic basis thereafter to ensure that employees maintain a satisfactory driving status.)
